Moments In Time
Gravitating to the idea of capturing a fleeting moment in time, Heather Millar's work beautifully reflects a vintage ambiance steeped in deep nostalgia. Her pieces draw inspiration from a variety of sources, including cherished childhood toys, treasured vintage family snapshots, intimate portraiture, and serene landscapes and wildlife paused in a still moment.
"I love the idea of having something tangible to represent that moment caught in time," she explains.
Too often, our memories blur and obscure the reality of what truly was, so by bringing those images back to life in the form of a painting on canvas, Heather allows the viewer to reconnect with and treasure memories that may have once been lost or forgotten.
Heather is a professional painter who has recently relocated to Odense, Denmark, where she is actively living and working. Originally from Alberta, Canada, she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary in 1998. Having been passionate about painting since childhood, Heather discovered the captivating and seductive art of glass blowing during her time at ACAD and chose it as her major throughout her studies. However, after graduation, the practical challenges of renting or establishing her own glass studio proved to be out of reach. Consequently, she returned to painting and uncovered a rich, previously unexplored world of inspiration in her immediate environment. Almost entirely self-taught in painting techniques, Heather’s artistic style has developed into a distinctive form of contemporary pop art. Her work centers on the image itself as the primary subject, not aiming for hyper-realistic depictions but inviting viewers on a visual journey. She encourages the eye to move freely across the canvas, appreciating the deliberate brushstrokes, the visible evolution of each piece, and the bold blocks of uninterrupted color. Heather’s intention is to create every artwork through conscious, purposeful mark-making that tells a deeper story. Currently, she is represented by Canvas Gallery in Toronto, Ontario, and Adele Campbell Fine Art in Whistler, British Columbia. Her artwork is proudly held in private collections worldwide, included in public collections across Canada, and prominently featured on popular television shows such as "Suits" and HGTV Canada.
